Set an AgendaThe most productive one-on-ones have some kind of structure, which requires you to do some prep beforehand. Basically, dont just show up and chat- youll lose precious time in rambling conversations. Have a clear agenda- you can use this template to create one and send it to your boss before you meet.Share Important Updates (But Keep Them Quick)Its key to share any important updates with your manager- heres what I did last week, heres what Im doing this week, heres the result of X project- but be careful of spending too much time discussing these. Prior to your one-on-one, consider what you want to get out of sharing updates. Remember that you dont have to share everything in person- many things can be explained over emaille or Slack, or in passing over lunch. Instead, prioritize them. If you find yourself drafting an essay-length email to your manager, thats a good sign your update is better suited for in person. Dont be afraid to share and celebrate your wins. Help your manager see your progress and acknowledge your good work. Ask questions that get to the heart of your concerns. For instance, if youre stuck on a potential strategy, you can ask your manager How would you approach X? My proposed solution is Y, any feedback on this?Its important to notenzeichen that your role as an individual is not only to surface questions but also to provide some initial thoughts on how you might solve these problems. Its okay if your ideas arent fully baked, but make sure youve thought through poten tial solutions, rather than rely fully on your manager to solve those issues for you.Make Commitments Out LoudWhat next steps will you and your manager both agree to? What tasks will your manager commit to taking on, and whats on you to carry forward? Articulate and agree on these commitments in the last part of your one-on-one so youre crystal clear on whats expected between now and your next check-in. This could be as simple as your manager agreeing to send over a report that might be helpful for you, or as complex as you agreeing to have a difficult conversation with a client. Discuss the Long TermNot every one-on-one needs to be about the short-term- remember to discuss long-term goals every now and then. Think about how your manager can help you grow in your career, and ask for feedback to help guide the way. For instance, ask yourself and your boss What am I good at and how can I get to the next level? What are my strengths? What are some gaps in my experience, and what help d o I need to get there? You should send these questions along in advance (a.k.a., in your agenda) so your manager can prepare thoughtful feedback. This also gives you time to self-reflect and prepare for your part of the conversation.These simple changes will help your one-on-ones be more productive and show your manager that youre proactive about managing your work and your career- and confident in your abilities to do so.

If youre asked to do an underwater shoot, make sure you ask if there will be a person at the shoot whose sole responsibility will be your safety. This person will be there to pull you up when you need to be (remember that youre likely wearing weights) and to make sure youre getting enough oxygen. A lot of models will try to push themselves when they really need to take a break, and a good safety person will keep their eye out for signs youre getting light-headed or in distress. Practice Breathing Techniques Being underwater for any amount of time can be a stressful experience if youre not prepared for it. Many of us have a natural reflex to scrunch our face up underwater while we hold our breath. As you can imagine, this does not make for very good photos. Before you go underwater, take very deep, slow breaths to make sure youre getting as much oxygen to your brain and other organs as possible. These deep breaths will also help calm the nervous system that will make you look more peaceful, natural, and relaxed underwater. Be Well-Rested and Well-Fed Being in water all day will leave you feeling utterly exhausted if you arent physically p repared for it. Before an underwater photo shoot, models must make sure theyve had a solid nights rest and have had a healthy meal that will help keep their energy up. If youre very tired, this will translate to your photos. Underwater photo shoots tend to take much longer than land shoots, so you will also need to be prepared for a longer workday. You will be going up and down and in and out of the water all day, so if you have an empty stomach, you could quickly become light-headed and unable to finish the job Bring Eye Drops Do you remember having red, dry eyes as a kid after spending all day in the pool? This can happen to models doing underwater shoots very quickly, especially considering you will often have to keep your eyes open when youre below the surface. Bring eye drops with you to use between takes to help keep your eyes moisturized and you wont have to fight dry, itchy eyes for days after Move Slowly Quick movements have a place in some types of modeling, but un derwater modeling looks best with slow, fluid movements. If youre making quick movements underwater, not only will you be tiring yourself out quickly, you risk looking unnatural or even as though youre struggling to breathe. Your body will move and float naturally, but keeping your limbs, fingers, and toes elongated will help prevent you from making jerky movements. Underwater models often try dancer poses because these look especially elegant underwater. Just as people have a tendency to scrunch their faces underwater, they often do the same with their fingers and toes. By keeping your focus on elongating your limbs and moving slowly, your photos will not only look better but will help you stay calm and focused underwater as well.

Many rely on this superficial firstround speed sift to eliminate time wasters and quickly ring-fence promising applicants.Of course, the truth is that there will be a lot of collateral damage from using this 6 second scan, (meaning talent may be senfgas in the first round), but it is an unavoidable reality for many, and recruiters simply have to make do. So, what useful information can be uncovered in a superficial 6 second scan that jettisons ill fitting applicants and leaves most of the quality intact? I have outlined a few belowThere are several signs of job advert spamming that I think can be spotted in a split second by scanning your email inbox , and the most surefire sign of that for me is an application submitted within hours of the job being posted and one that doesnt contain a cover letter, especially if asked for. Its very likely that this is a spam application where the applicant has probably not looked much beyond the job description when applying for the role. There is a small chance of fit, and this resume may be safely passed over.If you are really focused on attention to detail, thoroughness and rule following, include specific application instructions in the job description, such as they must start the email, subject header with a particular code word. If they fail to follow unterstellung criteria, youd have to be concerned whether they were the right fit.These two types of inbox screening can help you sift a large proportion of time wasters within 2 or 3 seconds, probably allowing you a little extra time to scan the resume.So, what can you uncover within the resume itself? Resumes that are well structured, wit h clearly delineated sections, and which make appropriate use of bold headings and indents, short sentences and bullet points indicate that the candidate understands the importance of presentation and that they may have a more organized mind. (Even if it was prepared by a resume writer, it at least shows they understand the importance of presentation and readability and that they know their own limitations). A cluttered or less clear resume, which can be judged in a 2-second glance is most likely a no fit.While the summary section is important, TheLadders study showed that recruiters focus in on current and previous job title/position and employment dates during the crucial 6 seconds. So, if job titles dont match your position on offer and dates are a little wonky, the candidate is clearly a weaker match and ready for your maybe or reject pile.As well as relevancy, youll be looking for signs of dynamism and effectiveness,which could be concise sentences starting with actions words l ike, created, improved, increased, and with numbers, dollar values or percentages associated.You may also spot typos, (although you might not come across one in a 6 second scan) but they can be an indication of carelessness, not using a spell-checker, being a bad speller etc., and if you have a zero-tolerance policy of spelling and grammar, this is also a great second scan criterion.So, as you can see, it is possible (although not advised) for recruiters to make a superficial but partially meaningful assessment of resumes within 6 seconds.Master the art of closing deals and making placements. The concept helps fathers prioritize their lives  by determining the tasks they need to do versus the ones that they want to do: Quadrant 1 involves important and urgent items that must be dealt with immediately. An exaggeration (or not) may include taking care of a crying baby, putting out a kitchen fire, or making some important calls.Quadrant 2  includes important items that are not urgent. These items do not require your immediate attention, but they need to be planned for. This is a very important quadrant that needs dedicated focus to meet long-term goals.  Exercise, vacation, and planning are examples of items that may be included here. Quadrant 3  is described as urgent but unimportant tasks. These items should be minimized or eliminated completely. Also known as time sucks, interruptions, distractions, and unnecessary calls can give you back some wiggle room for other tasks.Quadrant 4 incorporates unimportant and non-urgent items  last. Similar to the last quadrant, these items should be minimized or removed because they add little to no value. These time wasters are often trivial. Change Your Life With just a little effort, your life and relationships can change by doubling the amount of time spent in Quadrant 2. Its  clear that Quadrant 1 items always get done and Quadrant 4 activities are a waste of time. Take the time to focus on Quadrant 2 by eliminating some Quadrant 4 activities first. Invest in your personal growth by emphasizing your spiritual focus, reading uplifting materials, and considering how to better live your life. Additionally, setting personal goals, evaluating progress, and planning your activities around those goals will give greater focus to your life and help you achieve more with less effort and less time lost. Finally, putting activities that build relationships with your children into Quadrant 2 will help create more  positive and trusting relationships  that avoid problems later on. Prioritize  Activities Focusing on Quadrant 2 activities, using time found by eliminating Quadrant 4 activities, makes all the difference in what you can accomplish in life. Planning and giving higher priority to the  things that matter most  will allow a busy father with many life demands to make good  decisions,  balance work and life better, and live a more abundant life. Quadrant 2 activities should be programmed into your daily schedule. Whether developing a  personal purpose statement  or setting personal and  family goals, fathers can learn how to thrive. The first step is to plan your time every week and make some room in your schedule for other Quadrant 2 activities, like the following: Reading scripture, praying, and meditatingPersonal exercise and nutrition planningDate  nights with your partnerFamily nights and recreation  with the  kidsJob interviews and career planningVisualizing, reading, and writing affirmationsJournaling A Success Story Following The Time Management Matrix can be life-changing. One father shared his personal experience with  his early mentor, Dr. Covey, during his college years: I am fortunate to count Dr. Covey as one of my early mentors and university professors. Even before he published his wildly successful book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Dr. Covey was teaching graduate students at Brigham Young University the importance of time management and work-life balance.The first time I saw the Time Management Matrix (also known as the Four Quadrants) was on a white board in a large classroom at BYU. Dr. Covey drew a box on the board divided by a horizontal line and a vertical line into four quadrants. Across the top, he labeled the two columns Urgent and Not Urgent. Then he labeled the two rows Important and Not Important. Then he labeled the quadrants with the numbers one  through four, starting at the top left and ending at the bottom right.Then,  he asked the class to help him fill in some activities that fit into each quadrant. The first one was easy: urgent and important. One student said, Cramming for your tests. He was right, it was urgent a nd it was important. Dr. Covey then asked, Where should we put doing the required reading and keeping up with class assignments? Students responded, Quadrant 2: important but not urgent.We next went to Quadrant 3:  urgent but not important. A ringing telephone was one response. Perhaps, Dr. Covey said, but what if it was the big job offer you had been waiting for?That is for sure a Quadrant 1 call, the student responded.When he got to Quadrant 4, activities in that quadrant came fast and furious. Talking with my roommate until 2:00 a.m. one suggested. Staying for the fourth quarter when BYU is ahead by 24 said another.Finally, Dr. Coveys graduate assistant passed out a paper with the four quadrants and asked us to estimate how much of the 128 hours in our week was spent in each quadrant. I had to admit that I was spending a lot of time in Quadrants 1 and 4, some in Quadrant 3, and almost none in Quadrant 2.Dr. Covey then suggested some ways that we could spend more time in Quadrant 2. Careful planning, spiritual renewal, goal setting, spending time on important relationships, journal writing, and more were all important but not urgent. No one demanded an accounting for these things. But his counsel was to plan our time so that Quadrant 2 activities came first.
